Are you looking for a freshly roasted quality Arabica coffee? – then at Coffee Merchant in Durban you’re at the right coffee roastery!
Unlocking the aroma and flavour inside green coffee beans is done through roasting the beans. Roasting, is by rapidly bringing the beans to very high temperatures, causing chemical changes to take place in the raw coffee beans. They are then quickly cooled to stop the process from carrying on.
It takes years of training to become an expert roaster with the ability to “read” the beans and make decisions with split-second timing. The difference between perfectly roasted coffee beans and a ruined batch can be a matter of seconds.
In general, roasts fall into one of four colour categories — light, medium, medium-dark and dark. Light roasts have a slightly higher concentration of caffeine than darker roasts. There is a world of difference between roasts. It’s a good idea to ask or taste before you buy.
Roasted beans have the traditional rich coffee aroma and weigh less because the moisture has been roasted out. They are crunchy to the bite, ready to be ground and brewed.
Once roasted, however, they should be used as quickly as possible before the fresh roast flavour and aroma begins to diminish.
True on-demand roasting in small continuous batches in our coffee roasting machines, ensure that Coffee Merchant lives up to its motto – “TASTE THE FRESHNESS”.
We invite all coffee lovers to visit our roaster during the week, where you’ll have the opportunity to witness the interactive roasting process, experience all the aromatic smells and have the opportunity to taste various single origin or coffee blends on offer, then purchase according to your preference.
